Walk with Reindeer
The reindeer are synonymous with Lapland, and at Apukka Resort, you’ll have the chance to experience nature with them. This tour will take you to a fenced area where curious reindeer await your arrival. Let’s open the gate and head into the woods with the reindeer and a professional reindeer herder. These reindeer are friendly and love to explore the surroundings! The herder will share stories about the reindeer and their unique profession as you journey along. Upon our return, we’ll savor a hot cup of black pot coffee—a true Lappish favorite!

This is an outdoor tour. Please wear clothing suitable for spending time in nature.
Infants are welcome if carried in a baby carrier by a parent.
Our reindeer farm is just a few minutes’ walk from the resort.
We kindly ask all our guests to treat the animals with respect. Please approach them slowly and avoid sudden movements that might startle them. Keeping a calm and gentle demeanor will help ensure the best experience for everyone.
The reindeer are semi-wild, domesticated animals, and their appearance and behavior follow nature’s rhythm. After spending the summer roaming freely in the wild, they may be a bit shy at first until they get used to human presence.
Be aware that we cannot permit any external snacks to be brought for the reindeer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Autumn Reindeer Tours
Am I allowed to bring treats for the reindeer?
Regrettably, we cannot permit any external snacks to be brought for the reindeer.
What should I wear for the reindeer tour?
We recommend dressing warmly in layers, as autumn in Lapland can get chilly. Waterproof and windproof outerwear, sturdy boots, and gloves are advisable. Don’t forget a hat and scarf to protect against the wind.
Please note that Apukka Resort does not provide outdoor clothing.
Are the reindeer treated responsibly?
Our reindeer experiences are certified by Green Activities, the only sustainability program in the Nordic countries that includes criteria for ensuring the welfare of animals used in tourism.
Read more about Apukka’s approach to reindeer welfare on our Sustainability-page.
Are reindeer domesticated animals?
Reindeer in Lapland are classified as semi-wild domesticated animals. They roam the northern landscapes, grazing in the fells and forests, occasionally even meandering into people’s yards. It’s no wonder, given that there are more reindeer in Lapland than there are people! Even the reindeer at Apukka enjoy summers freely, wandering the wilderness as they always have.
Remember to treat the reindeer with respect! Even though our reindeer are gentle, always approach them without any sudden movements, etc.
