Start your self-guided excursion from the Rovaniemi city center, Santa Claus Village, or Apukka Resort, and experience the diverse nature trails in the Arctic Circle Hiking Area by choosing from several well-marked walking routes.
Arctic Circle Hiking Area Routes:
- Könkäänsaari Accessible Nature Trail (1.5 km) has easy access to the riverside and forest wilderness for all. The route is ideal for families with children and physically challenged persons.
- Vianaapa Mire Trail (9km) Equipped with duckboards and passes through untouched aapa mire.
- Kivalonaapa Meadow Culture Trail (about 7 km) gives a fascinating peek into the haymaking tradition of Southern Lapland.
Enjoy the wilderness and learn about local nature and culture. The trails feature colorfully illustrated information boards that introduce the area. There are several pleasant rest spots and campfire sites along the route for eating snacks and taking a break.

The Apukka Shuttle Bus departs from Rovaniemi city center at 9:30 and from Apukka Resort at 10:00. The return transfer from the Arctic Circle Hiking Area leaves at 13:20. It drives via Apukka Resort to Santa Claus Village and Rovaniemi City.
You also have the opportunity to experience Apukka Resort and take either of the later busses from Apukka Resort to the city center. At Apukka Resort, you can meet our reindeer and horses, rent an electric fatbike or enjoy delicious lunch (served daily at 12.00–15.00), or dinner at Restaurant Aitta.
