The wonders of the Arctic sky await you

The Northern Lights are one of the biggest attractions in Lapland. But did you know that you don’t have to wait for December or January to witness this awe-inspiring phenomenon? The Aurora season begins in Autumn, and these tours offer you various ways to experience them. Whether by mechanized vehicle or animal-powered sleigh, we can promise an unforgettable adventure.

Regardless of your chosen mode of transportation, our Aurora tours feature knowledgeable guides well-versed in Northern Lights lore and science. With their expertise, they select prime viewing spots, leaving you to simply relax and relish the mesmerizing spectacle of Lapland’s nature. You’ll leave these tours richer in experiences as well as richer in knowledge.

All of our Northern Lights tours commence at Apukka Resort, located at Tutkijantie 28, 96900 Rovaniemi. Transfers to and from the city center and Santa Claus Village are included. Most of the tours occur in the immediate vicinity of the resort, and we utilize private trails and lands.

Why choose an early winter aurora tour?

Thermometer is your friend

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need extremely cold and wintry conditions to witness the Auroras.

Stress-free Aurora hunting

Delightfully quiet Lappish forests create a great setting to enjoy the Northern Lights in a stress-free environment.

Snow for your enjoyment

When natural snow is scarce, we use stored snow and snow cannons to craft tour-ready snowy trails.

November Aurora Tours FAQ

Can I see anything from the Snow Train?

Yes, the heated carriage features large windows. It’s driven to a remote area to maximize the chances of seeing the Northern Lights.

Where does the Snow Train go?

Our Snow Train will take you through the mysterious forests and fields to a secret location on private Apukka lands, where we will gather around a fire in a Lappish hut – kota – to hear more about the Northern Lights while waiting for them to appear in the sky.

What type of vehicle is used for the “Aurora Hunt by Car”?

The choice of vehicle depends on the group size. For smaller groups, we use a car, while for larger groups, a bus is utilized.

Why choose a car for the Aurora tour?

A car is among the most effective means to chase the Northern Lights. It provides the opportunity to witness this natural wonder even on nights when conditions might be less than ideal in Apukka. Our guides meticulously research the best locations and offer valuable photography tips for capturing the beauty of the Auroras.

Will I be at the reins of the horse-drawn sleigh or will we have a guide?

Rest assured, our experienced guide skillfully maneuvers a spacious sleigh capable of accommodating up to 8 passengers.

During the reindeer ride, can my family and I sit together?

Our guides arrange guests into sleighs, ensuring an equitable weight distribution among the reindeer for a comfortable, spacious ride. While we aim to accommodate your requests, it may not always be feasible.

How do I get to Apukka from Rovaniemi city or Santa’s Village?

The shuttle bus is included in the activity price.

Rovaniemi city center bus stop: Korkalonkatu 36, Rovaniemi, close to Apukka Rovaniemi City Apartments.

Santa Claus Village: Santa Claus Village’s bus stop by the main road (road E75).
