Welcome the coming winter with the world-famous reindeer

Welcome the early winter as nature prepares for the cold. Join our reindeer tours for a unique experience, exploring nature, chasing the Northern Lights, and immersing in Christmas magic like never before! We’ve stockpiled snow from the previous winter to ensure your peaceful journeys, guided by the animal known across the world from Christmas tales – the iconic reindeer.

Since time immemorial, people have relied on reindeer for transportation in Lapland. Today, you have the opportunity to witness these wonderful animals in their natural habitat. Our professional reindeer herders lead every team, ensuring you can relax and relish the ride. These journeys will leave you with a profound appreciation for reindeer and their dedicated herders.

All of our reindeer tours begin at Apukka Resort, located at Tutkijantie 28, 96900 Rovaniemi. Transfers to and from the city center and Santa Claus Village are included. Most of the tours occur in the immediate vicinity of the resort, and we utilize private trails and lands.

November Reindeer Tours FAQ

How are seating arrangements made in sleighs?

Our guides carefully allocate seats in the sleighs to ensure an even load for the reindeer and to guarantee everyone on the tour enjoys a comfortable experience.

Am I allowed to bring treats for the reindeer?

Regrettably, we cannot permit any external snacks to be brought for the reindeer.

What should I wear for the reindeer ride?

For sleigh rides, we provide high-quality winter gear, including warm boots, a thermal suit, mittens, and woolen socks. We recommend bringing your own warm hat, scarf, suitably warm undergarments, and a comfortable mid-layer to ensure a cozy experience during our tours.

How fast are the reindeer?

Reindeer can sprint when needed, but our tours emphasize a leisurely pace, allowing you to truly relish the ride and the tranquility of the Lapland wilderness. It’s important to us that the reindeer move at a comfortable, smooth pace that suits them.

Are reindeer domesticated animals?

Reindeer in Lapland are classified as semi-wild domesticated animals. They roam the northern landscapes, grazing in the fells and forests, occasionally even meandering into people’s yards. It’s no wonder, given that there are more reindeer in Lapland than there are people! Even the reindeer at Apukka enjoy summers freely, wandering the wilderness as they always have.

Remember to treat the reindeer with respect! Even though our reindeer are gentle, always approach them without any sudden movements, etc.

How do I get from Rovaniemi city / Santa’s village to Apukka?

The price of the activity includes transfers with our shuttle bus.

Rovaniemi city center bus stop: Korkalonkatu 36, Rovaniemi, close to Apukka Rovaniemi City Apartments.

Santa Claus Village: Santa Claus Village’s bus stop by the main road (road E75).
