Christmas Time in Rovaniemi

When Magic Comes Alive

As Christmas approaches, a unique and warm holiday spirit takes over Apukka Resort Rovaniemi. After all, we are very, very close to Santa’s headquarters in Rovaniemi and here in the far up North, Christmas is truly a heart-warming celebration. The Elves are tiptoeing all around Rovaniemi with their “naughty or nice”-lists, the Christmas carols spread the holiday spirits everywhere in Lapland, and the delicious scents of traditional Finnish Christmas food cooked in our kitchen give the last, wonderful flavour to a Christmas holiday to remember.

In the Seek of Santa Claus

As you probably already know, Santa Claus lives in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, so there really is no other place in the entire world where you could be closer to the true spirit of Christmas. Did you know that one of Santa’s many secret hideaways is located in the midst of the Magic Forests of Apukka? It is a place filled with magic, a place where only the Elves know the pathway to. The old legends tell that the Elves once whispered a secret on how to find Santa’s Secret Hut: “Past a dozen birch trees, under an old pine tree branch, with the big stone remaining on your right keep going. As you get closer, simply follow Rudolph’s red nose”, they said. But the Magic Forest is indeed magical, and the magic of the Elves is needed to find the way to Father Christmas. Join the Elves for this enchanting journey across the Magic Forest to meet the Grand Old Man himself!

Christmas Food Served with a Hint of Magic

Surely you know that Santa loves his cookies with milk, but he is not the only one to appreciate tasty food at Christmas time. In Finland, we love Christmas, not least because of the delicious dishes prepared for this special holiday. Delicious aromas and pure joy fill the air as the dinner table is set with the most delicious, authentic Lappish Christmas dishes. As some of the recipes we use are a gift from Mrs. Claus and the Baking Department of the Elves, we are proud to guarantee that there is always a hint of magic in the food served in Apukka.  You never know, maybe Santa himself will stop by for a visit in Apukka on Christmas Day as we all know that Santa Claus can’t resist good food!

Santa’s Trainee Reindeer in Apukka Resort Rovaniemi

Now then, dear Friend, let us let you in on a well-kept secret. Some of the reindeer that live on the premises of Apukka are actually the carefully chosen elite trainees of Father Christmas. Each year Santa Claus, together with his trusted companion Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer, of course, chooses a new group of promising, young reindeer to enter the training program called “the Enchanted Reindeer on the Christmas Sky”. Those reindeer that pass the program with the best grades will eventually get the great honor of pulling Santa’s sleigh across the world during Christmas days – an honor that any reindeer dreams of. The reindeer that live in Apukka are still at the beginning of their training program, but according to Santa’s words, they have a great potential of following in Rudolph’s footsteps. Just imagine, one day these very reindeer may be flying above you in the night skies at Christmas time, helping Santa Claus to deliver gifts to all the children of the world. Magical thought, isn’t it? Join our reindeer for their adventures (on land as the flying practice only comes later in their training) as they practice for this important task that awaits them in the Christmases to come!

Christmas Tree Decoration in Apukka Resort Rovaniemi

As Christmas Eve arrives, it is time for a very, very important task. Last Christmas Santa Claus told us that this Christmas he’ll leave us a gift in the forests surrounding Apukka. A very, very special Christmas tree with every branch of it carrying a unique bit of Christmas Magic, Santa said. “I’ll mark it for you with a small lantern and an old Christmas decoration from the time my Elves very still young children many centuries ago. You’ll know it’s the right tree when you’ll see it”, Santa Claus said. This tree, he told us, will fill our Christmas time with magic and joy – but first, we need to decorate it together!
