Ice Fishing Like a Finn

1. If you stay at Apukka Resort:

• The meeting point is at the Adventure House, situated in the main yard of Apukka Resort.
• If you have your winter gear, please arrive 10 minutes before the start of the activity.
• In case you’re without your winter gear, kindly retrieve it beforehand.

2. If you need transportation:

• The price of the activity includes transfers to and from Apukka Resort with our shuttle bus.
• The bus stops are located at:
  • Rovaniemi city center Korkalonkatu 23. Check the location on Google Maps.
  • Santa Claus Village: The bus stop (Napapiiri I) by the main road (road E75). Check the location on Google Maps.
• Choose the pick-up point during the booking process.
• You will receive an email with the pick-up details.
• Please be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the given departure time.
• The transfer won’t wait, so punctuality is essential!
• If you’re late for the transfer, the tour won’t be refunded.

3. If you arrive by car:

• You can park your car in Apukka’s parking lot (Tutkijantie 28, Rovaniemi).
• Arrive at least 20 min before the activity starts.
• Pick up your winter gear from the Adventure House, located in the main yard of the resort.
• Wait at the Adventure House until the tour begins.

What is ice fishing?

Ice fishing is a popular Finnish winter activity where anglers fish through holes drilled into the surface of frozen bodies of water, such as lakes found at Apukka Resort.

What if I’m new to ice fishing?

No worries! Our guides are knowledgeable and experienced in ice fishing techniques. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, they’ll provide essential guidance to ensure a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Is ice fishing safe?

Yes! Our ice fishing tours are only organized when the thickness of the ice has been verified by our experts to meet the required safety levels.

Are there fish in the lakes around Apukka?

Absolutely! The European perch, known as “ahven” in Finnish, is the most common catch.

What can we do with the caught fish?

You have two options: release it back into the lake to continue growing, or our guide can assist you in preparing it for a delicious snack.

Are snacks provided during the tours?

Absolutely! Regardless of the tour you choose, snacks are included for all participants. If the fishing gods favor you and you catch a fish, our guides can expertly turn it into a tasty snack right on the spot. And even if the catch is slim, rest assured that snacks await everyone to enjoy by the fireside.

Are there any permits required for ice fishing?

You don’t need a license to ice fish at Apukka Resort.

Does Apukka Resort offer winter clothing?

Yes, winter clothing is provided at Apukka Resort for guests aged 2 and above. The clothing set includes thermal overalls, boots, woolen socks, mittens, and a balaclava. Be sure to bring your own thermal underwear, a cozy mid-layer (fleece or wool are ideal), as well as a warm hat and scarf.
