Frequently Asked Questions About Aurora Tours
When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?
The best time to see the Northern Lights (Auroras) in Rovaniemi, Lapland, is typically from late August to early April, with peak activity around equinox dates in late September and late March. However, sightings are subject to weather conditions and solar activity. We recommend using the Aurora Alert Realtime App for the most up-to-date information.
Can I see anything from the Snow Train?
Yes, the heated carriage features large windows. The train takes you to a remote area, increasing your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights. However, the Snow Train itself is not the main attraction of the tour—it’s simply a convenient means of transportation to the heart of nature, where you can explore further on foot.
How would you describe the Snow Train journey?
You’ll head into nature to board our Snow Train, which will take you through pristine wilderness to a secret location. There, we’ll gather around a fire in a traditional Lappish hut – a kota – to learn about the region’s natural wonders. If you’re lucky, the Auroras might even make an appearance!
Does Apukka Resort offer winter clothing for Aurora tours?
Yes, winter clothing is provided at Apukka Resort for guests aged 2 and above participating in Aurora tours. The clothing set includes thermal overalls, boots, woolen socks, mittens, and a balaclava. Be sure to bring your own thermal underwear, a cozy mid-layer (fleece or wool are ideal), as well as a warm hat and scarf.
Do you offer an Aurora guarantee?
No, we don’t offer an Aurora guarantee. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and their appearance can never be predicted with 100% certainty by anyone.
All our Northern Lights tours are designed to be memorable experiences on their own—not solely dependent on seeing the Auroras. Each experience focuses on Lapland’s nature, atmosphere, and unique moments—so the tour remains memorable even if the Auroras choose not to appear.
Do you offer refunds if the Auroras don’t appear?
No, we don’t offer refunds or rebookings based on Aurora visibility.
Refund policies tied to Aurora visibility can undervalue the work of professional guides and staff. As a sustainably certified company, fair and responsible treatment of our employees is a core value for us.
By choosing Apukka Resort, you are choosing an experience that prioritizes quality, authenticity, and sustainability—whatever the northern sky may bring.
